Chapter 15 - I'm your Husband not Father-- Dhwani and Shikhar's Room - After the wedding

The two walked back to their room is pure silence. Dhwani had a lot to talk about - like always- but knew it wouldn't be appropriate to talk and decided to stay quiet knowing its the best resort.

In Shikhar's eyes Dhwani looked absolutely gorgeous but like always he decided to stay quiet.

The two soon reached their room and Dhwani sighed as if she was relieved however without a word she walked towards their walk-in closet leaving Shikhar confused. Yet he too walked to their bathroom and took a shower before going to their closet and choosing a pair of clothes.

He walked out to see Dhwani sitting on the dressing table in the middle of her night routine and a frown replaced his poker face as soon as he saw this.

As Dhwani was absentmindedly looking around through the mirror her eyes stopped at Shikhar who was staring at her with the frown still present. At the moment there wasn't a single expression on her face and she wasn't interested yet she decided to ask "What happened? Why are you staring at me like this?"

He just shook his head in response.

This out of all things was definitely something Dhwani was used too however one thing she wasn't used too was him initiating a conversation "How much longer Dhwani?" Her head jerked towards him and found him laying on the bed with the duvet covering his lower half and his left hand stretched wide on Dhwani's side. " Uh, J-just a few more minutes. Do you want something?"

He muffled a yawn before he turned facing Dhwani's side of the bed "Yea I do need something." "You need something?" He just nodded his head in a reply yet it wasn't a curt or a rude nod, it was a soft simple nod with his eyes closed, as a little boy was nodding instead of Shikhar. "What do you need?" His reply was short it simple yet it made Dhwani subtly gasp. "You."

It left her heart jumping and giggling like a little child "I-i'll be there in um a second." She tried to apply the serum on her face as quick as possible and almost dropped the bottle trying to close it in a hurry.

As soon as she was done she rushed towards the bed and rested her head on his extended hand, close to him. She could feel his body press against her as his hand snaked its way to her waist pulling her as close as possible.

Surely the two slept close every night but Shikhar himself initiating a conversation and hugging her himself was very new to her yet she didn't resist and got comfortable in his embrace. Her arms rested at his chest and her head was snuggled in his neck while he was basically giving her a bear hug.

Her head slightly vibrated when he spoke "I know you love speaking and giving me daily updated but Lavender let's talk tomorrow. I'm too tired today plus I'll let you give me bonus talks too tomorrow night just rest today okay? Right here Right with me."

Surprise bloomed in her as he spoke. Itna lamba sentence? (A sentence this long?) She understood what he meant and smile took over her face at the mention of bonus talks. Dhwani gave Shikhar daily updated on what happened while he was gone as he listened to her with all his mind and heart.

Dhwani, being Dhwani, always had more to talk about but wasn't able to talk more other than the daily updates so Shikhar and Dhwani labeled them as 'Bonus Talks'. It was a small something the two of them created and if Shikhar had to make Dhwani do something ,knowing she would say no even after he asked her too, let her give him these bonus talks which immediately bought a smile on her face and most of the time she agreed.

Shikhar, or the men of the entire Empire, wasn't one of the men who ordered their wife around. None of them considered their wives as their servants, infact treated them with at most respect all the time; yet if they needed something to be done - They asked.

-- Dhwani nodded as she acknowledged his words "I understand, I'm tired too but don't you dare forget about the bonus tomorrow." He smiled back at her and whispered "I won't, Promise." She muttered an okay before the couple drifted off to sleep.

-- -- Abhimanyu & Kiara's Room -- --

Kiara walked out of the room, out of the lehenga, in much more comfortable clothes. The room seemed rather light and simple without the red, bold candles and rose petals and the dark red lights but deep down she knew she would rather have light and simple instead of dark and bold.

She sighed out of exhaust knowing she had a long day with the wedding. Staring the room she got lost in a trance thinking about her life from now on. No more 'Mothers' but instead a husband and a huge family that is pretty much cold and rude.

She took a deep breath and took one step towards the sofa before the door slowly opened revealing Abhimanyu. He eyes were red and he look exhausted. He walked in with slow steps and closed the door behind him. He tried walking but miserably failed and his steps were extremely sloppy which was more than enough for Kiara to figure out he was drunk.

Her eyes slightly widened before she rushed towards him to help him. Up close she could she his eyes were blood-shot red and extremely drowsy. He looked tired.. exhausted. He was leaning on her with her hands resting on his lower arm.

The couple, staring into each others eyes, got lost in a whole different world. Everything around them faded away however this didn't last long as the hated alcohol smell reached her.. along with a hint of "Cigarette?" He just stared at her with a blank face seeming as if he was still lost in her eyes as she scrunched her nose in disgust.

"Abhimanyu Ji?" This time he was the one to scrunch his nose "Yeh Ji wi kya hota hai yaar? Tumhara pita thodi hoon." Her expression turned from a scrunched nose to a confused one "Kya?" He stood up straighter, trying not to lean on her "Kiara, Humari shaadi hui hai aaj." He looked at her with a pleading expression and jokingly folded his palms together "Please aaj ke baad mere naam ke aage ji mat lagana. Pati hoon pita nahi."
(What is this ji wi and all? Im not your father.)
(What?)
(Kiara, We got married today.) (From now on please don't Ji in front of my name. Im your husband not father.)

She looked around lost in thought "T-to sirf naam?" "Haan! Isme dikaat kya hai? Maa- baap ne naam diya hai - Abhimanyu - please usse bula lena mujhe." She nodded her sideways agreeing. "Sirf-sirf Abhimanyu." He looked at her innocent face and smiled knowing she was his now.
(S-so your name only?)
(Yea! What's the problem in that. My parents have given me a name - Abhimanyu- Please call me using that)
(Only-Only Abhimanyu)

His eyes caught a little 'abhi' written on her palm. He smirked before speaking "Aree sweetheart, First night and I already have nickname?" Her eyes followed his sight and she saw the name on her palm. " No- its not like - It not - you" He smirked wider "Its okay sweetheart. You too have a nickname. Aaj se (From today) You call me Abhi and I call you sweetheart. Sweet?" "Um A-are you sure I can call you Abhi. This was only because the Mehendi artist said your name was too long to be 'hidden' so she had to write abhi. I can't seriously call you Abhi." She said with a small nervous smile on her face.

"Why not? Of course you can." She shook her head again. He raised his eyebrows as if asking 'why'. "Everyone calls each other with a Ji in front of the name for respect. You want me to call you Abhimanyu I understand but a nickname goes too far. Sasu-Maa ( Mother-in-law) won't let me call you that, you, yourself, know that very well plus I can't risk it with knowing how she treats the daughter-in-laws of this family.." Her voice slowed down at the end as she realised she spoke too much. She took a quick glance and his face to see a slightly angry expression before she looked down and muttered a sorry.

She could hear him take a long breath before he took a step forward. He gently held her chin in one hand and lifted her head to look at her eyes before he spoke with a soft voice. "Kiara, Its my name and I want you call me Abhi. If mom or anyone yells at you for calling by nickname that you set for me, without hesitation tell me and I promise no one will ever yell at you again." Tears filled to the rim of her eyes as he continued speaking. "And.. you don't need to apologize. You're right about mom and the way or anyone in the family treats the daughter-in-laws of our family, its not right but I can't stop it. Anyways, I want you to call me by my nickname and that is exactly what you will do okay?" She sniffled before nodding. He smiled at response still looking in her eyes.

The smell of Alcohol and cigarettes budged her again and she instinctively moved a step back. "What happened Kiara?" She looked up at him before nervously smiling and laughing. He raised his eyebrows in question and she stopped laughing "It-its nothing." "Well if you step back its obviously something." "It's just that your drunk and I can smell the alcohol and also that you were perhaps smoking. I- I just don't really like the smell of it. It-It disgusts me. Sorry" He stared at her before his eyes widened in realization.

"No No why are you sorry? I should be sorry instead. I'll... just.. go shower again so you know you don't." He mumbled frantically before rushing off to the bathroom as she stared at his rushing figure and then the bathroom door a smile lit across her face. Maybe, just maybe she was staring to like her husband and maybe he was really cute.

However after a few seconds of staring at the door like an idiot she realised that she didn't know on which of the bed he preferred sleeping on which side of the bed or if she should sleep on the sofa or the floor... She looked around nervously and bit her lip and suddenly turned back as the door opened revealing Abhi in comfortable clothes. "What happened you haven't slept yet?" "I uh couldn't figure out where to sleep." He stared at her for a second as his eyes shifted between the bed and his head tilted sideways in confusion " We.. have a bed Kiara."

"R-right of course I saw that but I didn't know if I should sleep there and if I should which side and if not then the sofa or the floor I didn't know." He smiled at her while asking "Why would you sleep on the sofa or the floor?" "In-in case you would be uncomfortable or just wouldn't want me too." He moved forwards but spoke in a hurry "Don't worry haan I made sure I got rid of the smell and also there is no reason I wouldn't want you to sleep on the bed and it only matters if you are the uncomfortable one." "What do you mean?"

"Kiara you were to sleep on the bed no matter what. If you happened to be uncomfortable then I would be the one who sleep on the sofa or the floor. Not you. Never" "Oh"

He chuckled "Yea, so sleep on whichever side you prefer and I sleep on the sofa for the night." He took one step towards the sofa to make space but got startled as Kiara almost yelled "NO why?" He stopped dead in his spot before she frantically spoke again to explain herself. "I-I mean why would you sleep on the sofa. Its your room so you deserve to sleep on the bed and also I-I won't be uncomfortable. " "Are you sure?" "YEA... I mean yea plus i'll tell you if I feel uncomfortable."

The two smiled at each other before Kiara picked a side and both of them moved towards their respective sides of the bed. They turned off the lights yet there was the moonlight peeking in making the room easily visible. A gentle voice reached Abhi's ear "Abhi?" He hummed in response. "Remember we have to wake up early tomorrow" "Why" "I'm not sure. Sasu Maa told me that." "Okay"

Kiara slept as soon as the conversation ended.

The night passed in a blur as the couples were extremely tired and before they knew it was morning. Light sunlight entered the room as Kiara's phone buzzed due to the alarm she set. She groaned and reached over to her phone mindlessly tapping it to snooze.

The phone buzzed again a while later and she opened her eyes to..
